Vertical Runner's May 2008 Store Newsletter:
Finding the Right Shoes
It is the most important piece of equipment for runners and walkers, and yet most times it is over looked until an injury or ailment comes about. Runners of all levels and abilities put a lot of stress and rigor on the body. The right pair of shoes is your first line of defense in staying healthy and pain free. Believe it or not, walkers are much better off being fit into a pair of running shoes. A running shoe is designed to withstand the impact of 3-5 times a person's body weight while at the same time offering flexibility and a lightweight feel. Walkers traverse the same areas that runners do, such as roads, paved paths, tracks, Towpath, or trails, so there is a much broader offering with choosing a running shoe to walk in. When looking to be "fit" for the right pair of running or walking shoes, make sure that you are purchasing them from a reliable and knowledgeable retail establishment like Vertical Runner in Hudson, a store that prides itself in providing excellent customer service and expert advice as to what is best for you as an individual. Going for your fitting is best at the end of the day or right after activity because your feet will be at their most swollen point. Have no fear should you venture in without this suggested approach, because within the fitting process many questions will be asked and addressed to be sure that no stone has been left unturned. Many people today use a custom or over the counter insole as a means for more support or cushion, so if you have something that you prefer to use you should be sure to bring that in with you. There is always the possibility that an over the counter insert might be recommended so keep an open mind and allow for all options to be covered and discussed. The fitting process is an opportunity for you to learn exactly what you need for your individual needs. Constant interaction makes the fitting process much easier so never hesitate to ask questions or make suggestions.
